Heidi's Curls cover - Francesca Zonin's website

Heidi's Curls is my favorite book and my most recent. I was inspired to write this story by an old Italian rhyme about a girl named Susanna with curly hair. Each September my family and I would go and stay in the country side in my grandfather's farm. My great aunt would come and visit us often and every time she would recite to us this poem while acting out every word. The main line was: "Sotto ogni riccio c'era un capriccio", which literally means "under each curl there was a capricious wish". Based on this poem I wrote this story about a little girl Andrea and her older sister Heidi. In this case Heidi is hiding secrets in her curls and her little sister has to find out what they are. The story is also about relationships between older and younger siblings. When kids become teenagers, their priorities change. Soon they spend less time with the rest of the family members and more time alone or with their friends. Heidi's Curls - page 1Sometimes this can be a little sad for everyone! Eventually teenagers discover that it is still fun to relax with their younger siblings, because when they are playing little kids' games they can forget about their worries in school and in their social life.
This paperback book has 30 pages and it is written with simple words at a reading level for ages 4 to 8. I generated all the graphics digitally using Photoshop. The figures are drawn
simplistically in a Manga style.
